Friday Show & Tell…

Over lunch this Friday, Anthony showed us slides from his study of religious spaces in the profane and modern environment of the roadside and airport. This included roadside chapel case studies in Germany and Switzerland, and religious spaces at Heathrow Airport. Revisiting his road-trip to these curious ‘nowhere places’ his presentation invited us to challenge Marc Auge’s theories of ‘non-place’. It also gave an insight into how globalisation, increased mobilisation and cultural diversity have affected certain religious spaces.
